You might’ve heard about Roma and Charleville, towns way inland from the Australian coast, usually known for being VERY dry, now so wet after the best rainfall in a couple of decades that they’ve been declared disaster areas! I live much closer to the coast, and we’ve been feeling the effects of drought for about 8 years. But now our dams are at 80% capacity and climbing, and the forecast is for a warm wet autumn. The rainfall is breaking 100 year old record and everyone is shaking their heads and wisely saying “climate change”, or worse, muttering about earth changes and the end of the world! I even heard someone say the Chile earthquake is because of climate change! What is everyone on about?
Well not everyone – not me, for example, nor a lot of people I regularly hang out with. Yes, we are experiencing earth changes. Yes the weather around the world is extreme. We know that Australia is a land of “drought and flooding rain” as our poet Dorathea McKellar said over 100 years ago. And Aboriginal people have Dreamtime stories about the same thing. Just because our records only go back 100 or so years, doesn’t mean this isn’t a regular, long established, perfectly normal, pattern.
But anyway – that brings me to the topic of today’s post, the much-touted 2012 mystery/looming disaster/transformation/other interpretation.
I first came across the 2012 stuff about eight years ago when a lecturer made a passing reference to it. A few people in class nodded wisely and my interest was piqued. What is that about, I thought? So I googled for it and found almost nothing. That’s not the case now of course, there’s tens of thousands of 2012 information sites, and they all have their own take on this upcoming date, December 21, 2012. Many of them are about buying tinned food and heading for the hills; many about the disasters coming; and many more about the transformation we’re heading for.
For myself, I choose to explore, and if anyone is interested, I’ll share the results of my exploring here, just reply in the comments below and let me know. Otherwise I’ll not bother you all
To give you an example of how this would show up, I’m currently reading an amazing book by a very credentialed 2012 information researcher, Barbara Hand Clow, called Catastraphobia. She says that the societal impact of historical disasters have impacted into our racial memory, and it’s that impact that fuels the fear that grows around events like Y2K (remember that ‘disaster’?) or the GFC. It’s left us, she says, with a psychological syndrome she calls Catastrophobia – phobia of catastrophe.
Think about the average news bulletin – is Barbara correct?
She explores the human brain, how we access and create memory, and then a bunch of ancient mythical disasters – and sums it all up by telling us what she thinks is coming in 2012: a transformation, an evolutionary leap, a new way.
She’s not the only one saying this of course, and if you’re interested I’ll keep sharing this 2012 information from people who really know! Why? Because it really ticks me off that most of what is on TV is people whining about something or other; and most people get their thinking-material from the TV. I believe that the people who subscribe to this newsletter are also tired of the whining, and when we all put our thoughts into something that lifts our thinking, our spirits, and has the possiblity of transforming our belief, we contribute to the transformation of our cultural thought form. And that means something to me.
So I am happy to continue this 2012 exploration on my own, or to share it here . Let me know what you think, if I get ten comments below, I’ll continue…

Sandy I would love to hear the results of your exploration. I find that the information coming out now on how the brain functions is fascinating and truly liberating.
@Jillian: Jillian, thanks for letting me know – such an age of discovery isn’t it
G’day Sandy,
Marvellous someone else who is thinking …
all this doom and gloom about global warming -
this is a natural cycle that has been happening for thousands of years – only we didn’t keep records then (or can’t understand what was previously written in stone and symbols way back when).
Sure a little may be, and probably is, attributable to humans (denuding the country side, cutting down forests, killing fauna and flora, and over fishing and overusing land and resources) but mostly these changes are happening because that is the nature of things.
And to my way of thinking, this global warming is just the prelude to the next ice age coming up (as they have come in the past). Much easier to distract people with warming rather than an ice age. Sooo much easier to control (and make a few dollars out of it – but hey maybe I’m a cynic after listening to all those people moaning about Nature).
So I will be very interested in all you can find out about this next looming disaster – I must admit I hadn’t heard about 2012 being a disaster what to whack us! Could be another Y2K – that was really ridiculous.
Cheers Peggy
@peggy: Hi Peggy – yes indeed, I don’t think we’re behind the earth changes, though we have certainly abused our home shamefully. So if nothing else, the awareness around the climate change stuff will hopefully return us to a more mindful way of living. Y2K was a bit of a fizzer in the end, at least we did have some sway over that. Really we’re not very powerful when the planet decides to do what it does
It’s really an interesting exploration
Thanks for commenting, I appreciate greatly that there are others going hmmmmm about all this
Please share more on this subject. I agree that it is transformation that is coming.
@Maya: The more we all connect to the transformation idea, the less the catastrophising mob will hold sway – it’s about co-creating I reckon
Thanks for commenting!
Thanks for sharing this with us.
Lots of people really believe most of what they hear and see on TV, newspapers amd magazines. even the websites with only doom and gloom and groaning about everything around us.
We need to create the change so why not enlighten people and get more info out to the people about all the good and beautiful around us.
@Lucille: Luckily a positive is exponentially more powerful than a negative – good thing for us!
Thanks for commenting
I am also with you on all this. My interest was also piqued when I read a book a couple of years ago called – The Gaia Project 2012 by Hwee-Yong Jang. I beleive that transformation is coming and being aware of this and ackowledging it will enable us to be in the right place to help others. We will all have a role to play in it so the more shared knowledge is great.
@Jane: Hi Jane – well I’ve not heard of that book, sounds interesting. What is your recollection of the main points?
I would definately like to know more about your research, there is so much negativity around, so it would be good to get more positivity out there.
@Janet: It’s funny how we grasp at negativity isn’t it? Like all the earthquakes at the moment – last night on a news chat show there was a seismologist who said – there’s an earthquake every week, we just don’t usually hear about them. But media attention makes all the difference….
thank you
@judith: you’re welcome
I believe the 2012 shift will also be positive. Apparently the Mayans put an exact date of December 21st on it though so if this would true it would have to be some kind of ‘event’. I’m definitely interested in learning more.
What a wonderful time to be alive and chosen to experience the change in our consciousness. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
