Are you seeking more peace in your life? Many of us have had negative or traumatic experiences that have left us feeling angry, hurt, or disjointed in some way. These negative feelings are very powerful and can keep us from living a peaceful life.
However, you can give yourself permission to change your life for the better, starting now. You can choose to defuse the negative power.
By destroying the power negative thoughts have over you, you are giving yourself the power to find the peace that you long for.
Affirmations for Peace
It can be difficult to overcome the struggles we encounter. We allow many things to eat at us from the inside, to use up our vitality and stop us living our best lives. Life’s biggest hurdles, such as the loss of relationships, deaths, and financial issues, can steal peace and contentment from our hearts.
Instead of allowing yourself to live in despair from your struggles, you can reprogram your mind, and change your beliefs.
How can you reprogram your mind? There are some powerful tools you can use to help you; and one of them is called ‘affirmations’. Affirmations are a bit problematic though, because basically you are saying over and over what you want to be true in your life. Those things you want to change are usually patterns that have been part of your life for many years, and these patterns live in the subconscious mind. That’s the part of your mind that makes up 95% of who you are, it’s where the things you do automatically every day, like drive to work, actually reside. And it’s a massively powerful part of you that is the real controller of your life!
Have you ever wondered why you feel really bad, or react in an over-the-top way, when something really small happens? It’s because the incident triggered an old behaviour or belief pattern, that’s still alive and well and thriving, probably, in your subconscious mind. That’s why when something ‘bad’ happens, you feel negative feelings, that twist in your stomach, or that tightness in your chest.
In my experience as a counsellor, affirmations don’t work because you’d have to repeat it at least 60,000 times to change one belief; and to make it effective you’d have to power the 60,000 affirmations with real emotion! What I found was that PSYCH-K and EFT are the most effective ways to change the underlying belief framework, and that it takes persistence, hard work, and courage to face your inner self.
And then came two new tools that you can use yourself:
Afformations
This is a great little book by Dr Noah St John, that turns affirmations on their head! Instead of trying to overpower the subconscious mind by bombarding it with 60,000 or more emotion-charged affirmations for months, Noah suggests you simply ask a question. The subconscious mind is also a powerful problem solver, and so instead of affirming on and on “I have the relationship of my dreams”, you would ask “How can I have the relationship of my dreams?” And your subconscious mind then goes to work to find the answers. That’s not to say that you don’t still have to work at putting the answers into action, but I found that suddenly the pressure was off to change, and change became a much gentler process. Afformations is a small book – literally about half the dimensions and thickness of the average book.
Initially I was disappointed with how small the book was, I thought it probably wouldn’t be very useful, but its few pages are packed with dozens of examples that you can easily use in your own life. Highly recommended, and you pick it up at Amazon, or for Aussies and Kiwis, at Fishpond.
Affirmation Magic
The other powerful tool in the affirmations stable is probably my favourite, by Dr Sylvia Hartmann. Dr Hartmann is a German metaphysician living and working in the UK. She has developed a stable of powerful tools to help humans live easier lives, and her ebook Affirmation Magic is a powerhouse.
Where Afformations is a quick read and a tool that you can use immediately, Affirmation Magic is really a program for change. In 12 chapters Dr Hartmann explores what really powers the mind, and carefully explains and then demonstrates how each of the tools she’s developed to make affirmations work, work!
She says, “The idea of being able to say something, and then it comes true, has very much intrigued me; it sounded to me like a magic spell, but a modern version without the demons, convoluted rituals and all that religious baggage.”
She talks about every aspect you’ve never even thought of, in terms of affirmations and how they are everywhere in human experience, but that most of them never work the way we want them to work. Then she moves onto techniques that will help you come up with your own powerful affirmations that actually work.
It’s been a while since I bought this book, and I think that several of her techniques have become part of my toolkit for every day. So why would a PSYCH-K practitioner use an affirmation book anyway? Probably for the same reasons you would – it’s not always convenient to go find a therapist to work with; or it doesn’t seem like a big enough issue to work with a therapist; or time is an issue; or a hundred other reasons that I’m sure pop up in your life. And to be honest, I love learning new things; everything I read and hear goes into the mill and comes out the other end blended with all the other stuff I’ve heard and learned. Humans and our growth and development is a hobby of mine and I know I’ll be learning my whole life.
When my children were younger we homeschooled for a few years, and I became a big fan of an early 20th century educator called Charlotte Mason. Ms Mason’s foundation for teaching young people what she taught them, was that she wanted them, in quiet moments, to have a higher quality of thinking. Obviously that’s stayed with me, and I guess that’s why I keep looking for tools that work – so that I and my clients, and maybe you, have a higher quality of thinking in quiet moments, that keeps adding to the raising of consciousness on our powerful planet.
So if you’re interested in finding out more about affirmations, and, yes, getting a bunch of affirmations that have working for other people, these two books will really help.
