One of my biggest concerns about having fluoride in our water supply is that we will never know how much of the stuff we’re consuming. If you eat or drink or shower at all, you are ingesting fluoride (the small molecule enters your body through your skin). And since everyone I know eats, drinks, and showers at least once every single day of their lives, their doses of fluoride will vary.
How do we know fluoride gets into food? Well it seems logical to me to assume that it must get into our food supply – water touches every part of our food production, from the water to nurture seeds, through manufacturing and packaging, to us washing or cooking it to put onto our plates.
This morning I found this research from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry:
A FLUORIDE DIET
The optimal range for daily intake of fluoride—the level that maximizes protection against tooth decay but minimizes other risks— is generally considered to be 0.05 to 0.07 milligram for each kilogram of body weight. Consuming foods and beverages with large amounts of fluoride can put a diet above this range. Below are typical trace levels of fluoride, measured in parts per million (ppm), found in foods and drinks tested at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry.
3.73 ppm Brewed black tea
2.34 ppm Raisins
2.02 ppm White wine
1.09 ppm Apple- flavored juice drink
0.91 ppm Brewed coffee
0.71 ppm Tap water (U.S.-wide average)
0.61 ppm Chicken soup broth
0.60 ppm Diet Coke (U.S.-wide average)
0.48 ppm Hot dog
0.46 ppm Grapefruit juice
0.45 ppm Beer
0.45 ppm Baked russet potatoes
0.35 ppm Cheddar cheese
0.33 ppm Flour tortillas
0.32 ppm Creamed corn (baby food)
0.23 ppm Chocolate ice cream
0.13 ppm Brewed chamomile tea
0.03 ppm Milk (2%)
The point of this though is that we Qlders are due for a state election this year, any day in fact if Anna decides to go early. As I’ve said before I was really pleased to see a woman in the top job, I had great hopes for her. But her jackboot approach to dumping fluoride into our water supply, in the face of enormous public opposition, and refusing to run a referendum to simply ASK US if we want to be mass-medicated, has really turned OFF my support for her. The Liberal-National Party are saying they’ll give us a referendum. So for the first time ever that’s how I’m going to vote. Plus, 10 years of Labor – time for a change. Find out more about Queenslanders Against Water Fluoridation. Or trust what the Govt is saying and do nothing. Your choice. Your bones. Your brain. Your thyroid gland. Your money spent on drugs to try to fix the parts of your body that fluoride will break, sometime in the future.
I know some people say fluoride is okay, what’s the big deal, it prevents cavities. Yes it does, when it’s applied to a tooth: not when it’s applied to our bloodstreams, which is what happens when our water is fluoridated. Half of the fluoride we ingest goes into our bones, where it stays. The more research is being done on this toxin, the more the findings of the 1940s science that fluoridated water is based on, is being questioned. There is enough doubt about thyroid and brain damage caused by fluoride, to err on the side of caution.
Didn’t we learn anything from thalidomide, cane toads, and vioxx? We’re just not that smart. When in doubt, leave it out!!

G’day Sandy, For years I have been saying that fluoride is a poison and why would you willingly put poison in your water?
Your articles says everything that I have been saying for years – I am on tank water so my drinking supply is safe – but EVERYTHING ELSE IS NOT!
The story of my 3 nieces – the first born was very carefully treated with fluoride (painted on by dentist and fluoride tablets also prescribed by said dentist) Niece 2, had fluoride tablets prescribed by dentist and Niece 3 just used good toothpaste and toothbrush (with some fluoride toothpaste – sometimes).
The result – Niece 1 – has absolutely horrible teeth – lots of fillings and many dentist visit (was he drumming up business – I’M a cynic – sorry) Niece 2 – teeth were better some fillings.
Niece 3 Good teeth, very little dental work just a couple of fillings over years (She is now 20).
I have heard similar stories from other parents. Makes you wonder doesn’t it!
Perhaps it might be an idea to check overseas to see how they dealt with the fluoride issue. I do believe there are many countries that have discontinued the use of it, some have banned it altogether. Research along these lines might present a very good argument why we SHOULD ALSO DISCONTINUE the use of fluoride. \
Present this information in newspapers and on TV to the GENERAL PUBLIC as well as sending documentation to the government (ANNA BLIGH) and the OPPOSITION (who might be more inclined to do something to please the public who may be swayed to vote for them soon!)
Fancy US (THE PUBLIC) paying to be poisoned – to the tune of $34M (Is that a definition of insanity??)
Hi Peggy
I just don’t understand why the Blight (the t is not an accident) Government is pushing this agenda. Much of Europe has either never had it in, or has removed it from, their water supply. The claimed benefits are tenuous at best but the side-effects that are emerging, aside from fluorosis of the teeth and bones, are truly scary!
We have an epidemic of low thyroid due to toxins and other stresses in our communities – how many women do you know who take thyroxine? I don’t, despite having half of my thyroid removed about 14 years ago, but it’s tricky to balance it with diet. I don’t want to go the drug route because once you’re on it, you’re on it for life. With fluoride’s known toxic impact on the thyroid, what will that do across our community long-term?
I just don’t understand why we’re not spending this money on education and free toothbrushes. After all it’s poor hygiene that causes tooth decay, NOT a lack of fluoride!
Meanwhile we can’t avoid the stuff… so why is our government poisoning us?
