A couple of weeks ago my friend Lucinda and I got together and did a personal review of the year, and set our goals for the year to come.
“Boring”, I can hear you say. “Never works for me”, I can hear you say.
I get that, really. It usually doesn’t work too well for me either, and while I think vision boards sound like a great idea, I just never seem to quite get there…
So we did something a little different, and I’ll get to that in minute, but first, answer these questions for yourself… (If you’d like to type these answers, you can get a Word 2003 version of the questions by clicking here.
What was the absolute best thing about this year?
What else was great about this year?
What else?
What else?
Keep adding what else’s until you run out
What was the thing you’d rather had not happened?
What did you learn about yourself from that thing you’d rather hadn’t happened?
Was that the thing you most valued about this year, or was it something else?
On a scale of 1 – 10, where 10 is AWESOME, how would you rate your year, overall? (Remember, it’s the number that pops into your head!)
Does that number surprise you?
Take a moment to appreciate all those great things, close your eyes and really feel that surprised pleased feeling all through your body.
So now, imagine that you’re sitting in a comfortable spot on December 31 2011, and look around you – what do you see?
What was the absolute best thing about 2011?
When did that happen?
What else was great about 2011?
When did that happen?
What else?
When did that happen?
What else?
When did that happen?
Keep adding what else’s until you run out J
What was the thing you were most afraid might happen in 2011, did it happen, and how did you deal with it?
What was the thing you most valued about this year, or was it something else?
On a scale of 1 – 10, where 10 is AWESOME, how would you rate your year, overall? (Remember, it’s the number that pops into your head!)
Does that number surprise you?
There you go, you just set some important goals for 2011. Wasn’t boring at all was it J At least, that’s what Lucinda and I found anyway J

Hi Sandy, what a gem!!! thats awesome! I received a copy of the 8 steps to happiness book for Christmas (from the ABC Show) and they suggest to do your own Eulogy! it surprised me what I wanted to be doing – another awesome way to tap in to what we really want from our lives – thanks for all your great information over the last year – Happy 2011 to you and yours
@Paige: It was fun to do, which was a surprise – we both felt like we needed to do it, and we should do it – and it turned out to be fun
Thanks for your support Paige, I do appreciate it, and I hope 2011 brings you much joy
New Year New Fun, was exactly that, it really is good to sit down and reflect over the year that is ending, even though I have had many up’s and down’s, the up’s I feel are the ones to focus on, looking forward to many more to come. Thanks so much for all the effort you have put into this site. Love it. Hugs Lorraine
Sandy,
Thank You! I’m going to share this with our kids over a meal time! It’s so good to reflect on what was good (and what you learned from the not-so-good rather than moping about it then move on). Good thought provoking questions. Leaves you with a fuzzy good, warm feeling. Thankfulness is sure good for the soul!
Have a happy 2011! God Bless!
Bernadette

@Andrea: Hi Andrea, I’m lookgin forward to reading yours too – I’ll be sure to do a followup late December and we can compare notes
Already opportunities to start two of them have popped up – one a day, not bad so far
Thanks for your supprot this year Andrea, I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next for you
@Bernadette: Bernadette, how did you go sharing that with the kids?
I reckon thankfulness also impacts on everyone around us – which is why one person at a time makes such a huge difference
@Lorraine: Lorraine, it’s amazing when we see the ups as well isn’t it? It’s a human thing to focus on the downs…. good on you for choosing to see the ups
